Its not that I don't want to write, because writing is my passion but because of financial difficulties etc, I no longer have internet at home. I'm hoping to be able to start back to writing very soon and I appreciate your understanding.<br /> Yvonne Joneshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03015472731874068129noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7687045556088523662.post-19291669197909321222015-10-20T15:13:00.001-07:002015-10-20T15:13:12.291-07:00Yvonne Jones, A Time To Heal; The Struggles of a Battered Woman on: "Short Fuses"<!--[if gte mso 9]><xml>

Have you ever been around somebody who just about everything you say or do they disagree with? You really wanted
to tell them that you didn't agree, but doing so would bring about an argument,
or even worse. This is one of the biggest forms of abuse that is so damaging.
Sometimes you have to learn to agree to disagree, that's true and sometimes in
order to keep peace, its better to just let them believe you agree whether you
do or not. However in a relationship that's abusive this is very dangerous. If
you start out in the beginning having to agree with someone just to keep from
getting hit etc. then you need to get out as soon as possible.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
My ex-husband
told me many times that I was stupid, fat, ugly, and that nobody but him would
ever love me. He would often say you are stupid aren't you? Then tell me I'd
better say yes or he would kill me etc. I found myself many times agreeing with
whatever he said just hoping that it would calm him down and even then
sometimes it didn't matter. If I agreed he'd hit me, if I didn't agree he'd hit
me, and it got to the point that it didn't matter whether I spoke or didn't say
anything at all, he would still hit me. If you have to keep peace by agreeing
to something that you disagree with, then this is abuse.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
God created each one
of us different, we all have different personalities; you may not always
agree with me and I may not always agree with you, but that doesn't give us the
right to hurt someone because of it. The longer you stay in this kind of an
abusive relationship, the harder it is mentally to get out. Next: "I'm
being watched."</div>

I know all too well the pain and heartache that comes with not only being abused but losing my precious son at the hands of an abuser.<br />
Domestic violence is one of the leading causes of death in women in the United States; and I fully believe that its because there is not nearly enough education nor enough people who are willing to step up and share their stories. I totally understand, especially if the abuser is still in any way a part of your life. Most of the time there are children involved, custody issues, and sometimes even threats of violence to other family members. The fact is if we as victims don't step up and share our stories, then this cycle of abuse will continue to get worse.<br />
Today I want to encourage you to take a stand, be bold and let's stop these abusers from having control over our lives. The Bible says we are more than conquerors through the blood of Jesus Christ and there is nothing that we cannot do without his strength. You are somebody, your life matters, and you can be the key to freedom for other women who are being abused. <br />
Contact me if you have a story about abuse you would like to share and let's put an end to this horrible crime that is destroying women and children all over America.Yvonne Joneshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03015472731874068129noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7687045556088523662.post-20574247175021423262015-10-03T17:09:00.000-07:002015-10-03T17:13:07.580-07:00Yvonne Jones, A Time To Heal: The Struggles of a Battered Woman on: "He said he'd kill my family." One statement we have all heard and possibly have said is, "you can talk about me all you want, but don't talk about or hurt my family." This is one of the main reasons a woman continues to stay in an abusive relationship. The sad part is, most of the time, the threats are real and are usually carried out even if the woman decides to leave.<br />
So many times she feels that it would just be much easier to stay than to get her family involved and take a chance on one of them being hurt or killed. This is also another reason why many women will not tell anyone that they are being abused.<br />
How many times have you been around someone who has a black eye, burns, and bruises on their body and the only thing they can come up with is, "I fell down the stairs."<br />
I didn't tell anybody including my family, that I and my son were being abused. If I had, they would have done everything they could possibly think of to get us out.<br />
Would I have left if daddy had known about the abuse and came to take me home? I wish I could say yes, but most likely I would have stayed, simply because I love my family too much to take a chance on getting them hurt or killed.<br />
Staying was the wrong choice back then, just as it is today. My daddy had no idea that I or my son were being abused and I knew the threats were real, but that choice cost me the life of my son. It also caused me to lose my other son to adoption.<br />
Listen friends, abuse is not something you compromise about. Unless God intervenes, the abuse is not going to stop, its only going to get worse. The longer you stay, the harder it is to leave because you will become more and more convinced that what you are doing is best for everyone.<br />
I stayed until I became like a little child simply just doing whatever he told me to do. There are ways to protect your family, there is help, but you have to be the one to take that first step to get it. <br />

I think one of the hardest lessons for a woman to learn is, you cannot fix everyone or everything. God created us to be nurturers, and automatically we see a problem and believe we have the answer. "If I would just do this, or if I wouldn't have done that, he wouldn't be treating me this way." The sad part is, he tells you that you are to blame, and convinces you that if you would just learn to listen to him and do what he says then he wouldn't have to hurt you.<br />
I had to learn the hard way that it didn't matter what I did, or said, it was always my fault according to him. God did not create us to be a punching bag for anyone and if you are being abused in any way at all, you need to realize that "ITS NOT YOUR FAULT." The truth is, it doesn't matter what you do, how you act, or even how you treat him; if he gets angry, it will always be your fault in his eyes. <br />
Remember, only God can change a persons heart and life, and that person has to be willing to change. Next: "He said he'd kill my family. you ever been in a room and just sensed that someone was looking at you from a
distance? You might not be able to see them, but you just somehow know that
they are there. This is another sign of a person who is potentially abusive. I
guess you could also title this "Being Possessive." If your partner
cannot seem to be away from you at all for any length of time, becomes angry if
they can't reach you by phone, accuses you of cheating on them if you are a few
minutes late, monitors your phone calls, and I could go on and on; This is not
love, this is someone who is controlling, possessive and most likely will be
physically abusive. </span><br />

to get you away from your family. Your family will be the first ones to

pretending that they just love you and want to be near you; yet not wanting to

<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Have you ever been around somebody who
well just about everything they say or do you disagree with? You really wanted
to tell them that you didn't agree, but doing so would bring about an argument,
or even worse. This is one of the biggest forms of abuse that is so damaging.
Sometimes you have to learn to agree to disagree, that's true and sometimes in
order to keep peace, its better to just let them believe you agree whether you
do or not. However in a relationship that's abusive this is very dangerous. If
you start out in the beginning having to agree with someone just to keep from
getting hit etc., then you need to get out as soon as possible.<br />
My ex-husband
told me many times that I was stupid, fat, ugly, and that nobody but he would
ever love me. He would often say "you are stupid aren't you?" Then tell me I'd
better say yes or he would kill me etc. I found myself many times agreeing with
whatever he said just hoping that it would calm him down, and even then
sometimes it didn't matter. If I agreed he'd hit me, if I didn't agree he'd hit
me, and it got to the point that it didn't matter whether I spoke or didn't say
anything at all, he would still hit me.<br />
If you have to keep peace by agreeing
to something that you disagree with, then this is abuse. God created each one
of us with different personalities. You may not always
agree with me and I may not always agree with you, but that doesn't give us the
right to hurt someone because of it. The longer you stay in this kind of an
abusive relationship, the harder it is mentally to get out. Next: "I'm
being watched."</div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
So what is sexual abuse and how can there be sexual
abuse in marriage? After all God ordained sex in marriage and 1 Corinthians 7:4
says "The wife hath not power over her own body but the husband and
likewise the husband also hath not power of his own body but the wife. Now what
does this mean? Well I believe that in marriage, God intends for sex to be
beautiful and for husbands and wives to enjoy their sexual relationship. Also
that husbands and wives alike should not deny each other this intimacy for long
periods of time. However, when one partner is demanding the other partner to do
things that they are not comfortable with, becoming violent during sexual
relations, or making you be the soul initiator as my ex-husband did. Then this
becomes abuse. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
If I didn't initiate sexual relations with him every day,
he would become angry and accuse me of not loving him or wanting him,
afterwards becoming violent and hitting me. This doesn't apply to marriage only,
kids are learning about sex a lot earlier now than they used to and are being
taught that its ok as long as you protect yourself. The sad part is they are taking it out of the parents hands and allowing the schools to issue birth control without the parents permission. . I say this if you have a job, are paying
your own bills and can take responsibility for your actions and the
consequences thereof, then and only then should you be given the option of
birth control.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
You don't have to be an adult to be sexually abused, children
are being solicited on the internet every day, kidnapped and used for human
trafficking. Whether you are a child, teenager or a consenting adult, anything
forced upon you against your own will is abuse. Next, "Saying yes
whether you mean it or not."</div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
Hi friends, October is Domestic violence awareness month.
Now there's nothing wrong with having a month set aside to make people aware of
something, but just like Cancer, other diseases, child abuse etc. it
doesn't just happen during these months, it happens every minute of every day.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Abuse whether its spousal abuse or child abuse is something people don't like
to discuss but if you have kids, are dating, single and looking, etc. you need
to know that every man or woman you meet are not always the perfect individuals
they claim to be. One of the first signs of a potential abuser is what the
bible calls a froward mouth and a flattering tongue. Proverbs 26:28. How does
the saying go? Believe half of what you see and none of what you hear.
Lets face it most people are going to put their best foot forward, and show
only their best qualities when you first meet them.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
So just remember, if it sounds too good to be
true then its probably a lie. Listen to what he or she says, it won't take
long to see if they really telling the truth or just shooting you a line.
Tune in next time for "Short Fuses."</div>

I'm quite busy these days and its just been real hard to get to. I'm going to do better I promise because there are alot of hurting people out there and so many who are being abused that may not have anybody to turn to. So please pray for me that God will help me redeem my time and do what I feel he has called me to do. God bless.Yvonne Joneshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03015472731874068129noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7687045556088523662.post-18138925936503265232015-07-29T12:59:00.001-07:002015-07-29T12:59:18.223-07:00Yvonne Jones A Time To Heal on: What is Domestic ViolenceThe United States Department of Justice defines domestic violence as<span class="st" data-hveid="45">
a pattern of abusive behavior in any relationship that is used by one
partner to gain or maintain power and control over another intimate
partner. <em>Domestic violence</em> can be physical, sexual, emotional, economic, or psychological actions or threats of actions that influence another person. </span><br />
<span class="st" data-hveid="45"> Hi, my name is Yvonne Jones Author of A Time To Heal; The Struggles Of A Battered Woman. One of the most difficult lessons I had to learn in life is, we live our lives by the choices we make, and all it takes is one bad choice to ruin the rest of your life. Domestic violence is a worldwide problem that is highly misunderstood, taken for granted, and overlooked by many, including law enforcement. Don't get me wrong, there is a lot more education today about domestic violence, more help resources, more battered women's shelters, and more people who are sharing their stories in order to help someone else. There is an old saying that goes like this, "you never know how you will act or respond in a certain situation until you have gone through that situation yourself." In other words you can sit there and say, "well I would have done this, or I would have done that, there's no way I would have let that happen." The truth is none of us know how we will react to any situation until we are going through it ourselves. </span><br />
<span class="st" data-hveid="45"> Many years ago, when I was just a teenager I remember watching a show on TV where this man was beating his wife. I sat there and said, "man I would never let a man hit on me like that." I meant every word I said, but little did I know that one day years later I would be faced with that same situation, and guess what? I did just the opposite of what I said. Did I go into that relationship knowing that he was an abuser? NO! We don't purposely scope somebody out who we know is going to beat us or even possibly kill us. Men who abuse women do not show that side of themselves until they have started dating that person and gained her trust. Or do they? There are signs that you can look for in a person who is a potential abuser, but you won't know what those signs are unless you are looking for them and not allowing yourself to be taken in by their charm. </span><br />
<span class="st" data-hveid="45"> You may not have ever been abused, or know of anyone else who has but if you have children then one day you will have grandchildren, all of us have brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, friends etc. that we love and would not want to be abused. Whether you think you need to know about domestic violence and the many areas it covers or not, one day you will run into someone who does. You never know if that someone just might be related to you. </span><br />
<span class="st" data-hveid="45"> How do we help people who are going through addictions to alcohol, drugs, etc. Well its a little hard to tell someone how to get off drugs if you've never had a drug problem, etc, etc. but most of us know of someone who has been delivered from those addictions and we can help others by sharing our stories, and encouraging them to share theirs. What do people at alcoholics anonymous meetings do, they share their stories. </span><br />
<span class="st" data-hveid="45"> I will be starting a series of blogs that teaches you what to look for in a potential abuser, the steps to take in helping someone who is being abused, healing after abuse, and my own personal story of abuse that took the life of my 6 year old son. I hope you will follow me on this journey and I hope to be able to hear your stories as well. Until next time, may God bless and I look forward to having you help me put a stop to domestic violence. </span>Yvonne Joneshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03015472731874068129noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7687045556088523662.post-73667853621022281832015-07-23T16:20:00.000-07:002015-07-23T16:33:06.975-07:00DON'T WAIT UNTIL TOMORROW<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>DON’T WAIT UNTIL TOMORROW</span></b><br />

founded on the principles of God and with every generation God is slowly and

If you've never pulled up the statistics on child abuse, take some time to do so the results will shock you. The ones of you who know me and my story are aware that I know all too well not only about child abuse but also about spouse abuse. Last month marked 23 years that my son was murdered at the hand of an abuser. Unfortunately it also marked the end of a 25 year journey for me of 7 years in prison, 5 1/2 months in a halfway house and 14 years on parole. Why do I say unfortunately? Yes I am very thankful that this journey for me has finally ended, for the first time in 25 years I can say that I'm totally free. The fact is if I had known what to look for in the signs of an abuser, and my family would have know</b>n <b>the signs of someone who was being abused, I may not have had to go through this painful time in my life and more importantly, I might be standing here looking at the grandchildren of my son instead of having to visit his grave. You see what people don't realize is, you don't have to be involved in the crime itself, all you have to do is be present at the time it happens and you will be charged as an accessory. The law doesn't look at the fact that you've never been in trouble before, you had no idea what was going on, or you were mentally incapable of acting at the time, they simply look at the fact that you as a mother should have gotten your child out of there before it was too late. Abuse in all of its aspects is very hard to understand, and unless you have gone through it yourself, you can never possibly begin to know the mental anguish, the</b> <b>fear not only what will happen if you stay, but also the fear of what will happen if you leave. If you'll look at the many cases of abuse, the abuser most always tracks the victim or victims down, and the end result unless someone intervenes is usually death of some kind.</b> <b>Sure it would be great if the death was always the abuser, but most of the time its the victim, and sometimes even the victims family. It doesn't matter if you've been touched in some way by abuse or not, we all know someone who knows someone who has or is still going through abuse right now of some kind. We owe it to ourselves, those we love, our friends and even those we are acquainted with, to know the signs of not only those who would be potential abusers, but those who are being abused. I know from experience, that you don't tell anybody when you're being abused. You've somehow come to believe that you're the one who's at fault, if you would just do things differently then maybe he wouldn't be so hard on you. You're ashamed of who you have become, feeling like a helpless frightened child who can only do what they're told. Its a prison nobody should ever have to be in. Its a cause just like cancer that should be recognized and fought for every day of the year, not just certain months. Please educate yourself today on all types of abuse, and be that person who can hopefully help to save the lives of those who are bound by this horrible prison</b>.<b> Thanks for taking the time to read this and God bless.</b>Yvonne Joneshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03015472731874068129noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7687045556088523662.post-47458183790097639972014-10-11T18:06:00.003-07:002014-10-11T18:06:53.050-07:00Domestic Violence Awareness MonthHello everyone, my heart is heavy tonight and I tried yesterday to post something, but my laptop has problems and deleted it all about the time I was getting finished. Must not have been meant for that one to go. I guess you could say my heart is heavy for several reasons. My son who was murdered almost 23 years ago by a man who had been arrested for wife abuse, child abuse and suspected of killing 2 other children other than mine, his birthday was October 6th, he would have been 29 years old. My birthday was on September 27th just a few days before and my mothers was October 2nd. I lost her 3 years after my son. This month hasn't gotten off to a good start. My daddy who is 78 years old went in the hospital the 29th of September throwing up blood, later was admitted to CCU with a diagnosis of a bleeding ulcer. We came closer to losing him than we ever have, my step mother who has been battling gastroperethis for years, has had several stomach surgeries, and now her stomach is one huge hernia, was admitted to the hospital the day they let my daddy go home. She now has an esophagus problem that has to be fixed soon. Hernia's no doctor will touch anymore because she has no stomach muscles at all. Both are home and daddy is getting stronger, but my step mother will still have to have the esophagus surgery soon. My friend Leatha was supposed to go in the hospital September 18th for a herniated disk in her neck and have surgery, instead she went in with severe stomach pain only to find out she has Lymphoma. One month later she is still in the hospital, now in ICU on a ventilator with fluid in her lungs and they can't do Chemo at all because it makes her worse. So if you don't mind please keep all my family and her family in your prayers. Now for the reason for my blog.
As you know its Domestic Violence Awareness month, a very sensitive subject for alot of people, a world wide problem thats rarely talked about and highly misunderstood. As I said 23 years ago my son was murdered by an abuser of women and children. Back then there was no education on battered women, no understanding and no smypathy either. I as well as my mother inlaw at the time was there at the time the incident took place but I was unable mentally to stop it. Because of that fact, I too was arrested. The DA said he knew I had nothing to do with what happened and wasn't charging me for what I did, but what I didn't do which was to act at the time it happened. Long story short, I stayed in jail 2 weeks and was released to undergo counseling. 2 years later I was found guilty of manslaughter and sentenced to 21 years in prison. I did 71/2 years and was released on parole. The DA said he was using me as an example as to what happens to women who stay in abusive relationships. Before I went to prison, my counselor suggested that I write down my feelings and the things I could remember about what happened for my trial. My writing continued after I went to prison and later was material I would use to write my book "A Time To Heal: The Struggles Of A Battered Woman." My book has been out since 2011 and as you would guess, its hard to get attention when you are a first time author unless of course you are popular already. My book targets several different types of people. Of course those who are going through, have gone through, or know someone who is going through an abusive situation. Also, those who have lost loved ones at the hands of an abuser or just in general. It targets teenagers in highschool and helps them to realize that we live our lives by the choices we make and all it takes is one mistake to ruin the rest of your life. It targets all people who are dating, starting to date, or just waiting for the right person to come along. I talk about the importance of taking your time to get to know someone, knowing the signs of a potential abuser, and the importance of getting out of that relationship if you see those signs. It speaks to those who are in prison, have been released from prison, and the families involved because our decisions and what we go through not only affects us but it affects those we love. I don't claim to be anybody special, and I don't think I'm any better than anybody else, I just want to help other women and other people not have to go through the pain I've been through in my life because of my choices. If you've been following my post on face book you know I've been posting a message about the Authors Show. I joined that contest in hopes of spreading the word more about my book. If you haven't done so, please click on my page and go to the bottom where it says vote now. It then takes you to another page, you click on my name then go to the bottom where it says submit. I appreciate all the votes I can get. I'm asking everyone who believes that domestic violence is a problem, whether you know someone who has been abused or not to please vote for me. If my story can save the life of one person whether it be man, woman or child then my son will not have died in vain. I appreciate all of your prayers for my daddy, step mother and my friend Leatha. Thanks and God Bless. Oh and I will be at the Christmas festival in Jonesboro next month on the 29th and at the Christmas festival in Clarks on the 15 of next month. Hope to see you there. Thanks and God Bless.Yvonne Joneshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03015472731874068129noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7687045556088523662.post-36618398974629915532014-04-10T20:41:00.000-07:002014-04-10T20:41:06.810-07:00WILL THIS NIGHTMARE EVER END?
April 7, 20 years ago I got up, got dressed in my new clothes my Aunt had made for me, and headed to a courthouse 2 hours away. Only God knew what would happen this day. We were all very confident that things would be ok, after all God was in control, he had heard our prayers and we would all be headed home shortly after we arrived. After sitting there waiting for what seemed like an eternity, they finally called my name. As I stood there before the judge, confident that all was well, the next few words that came from his mouth were the hardest words I would hear. I hear-by sentence you to 21 years hard labor in the department of corrections with sentence to begin immediately. The deputy's immediately rushed to my side, handcuffed and shackled me right there in front of my family then led me away to the jail next door. All I remember was the voice of my mama screaming wait here's her purse. I had no idea that day where this journey was going to take me or just how long it would last. All I knew was I loved my little boy with all my heart and I knew I wasn't guilty of murder or manslaughter which is what they convicted me of. You see 2 years before this horrible day, my 6 year old son was murdered by my ex-husband. It wasn't until I was arrested myself that I found out that he had been arrested for wife abuse, child abuse and suspected of killing 2 other children other than my son. The lieutenant told me that the DA said he knew I had nothing to do with what happened and he wasn't charging me with what I did but what I didn't do and that was act at the time of my sons death. What kind of mother would stay with a man who was abusing her and her child? I asked myself that question and many more over and over again. I knew the kind of mother I was before I met this man. I loved my son with all my heart and was actually over protective of him. Well no matter what the answer was to this question and the many more that I had, I now had plenty of time to think about it. My ex-husband had been found guilty of murder and given the death penalty. The DA said he was using me as an example as to what happens to women who stay in abusive relationships. It was all so hard to believe. As they led me to the jail and got me settled they let my family come see me one more time before they went home. I can't describe the feeling I had, as I stood there behind a glass looking at the pain on my mama and daddy's face and the fear of not knowing what I was going to face. As we said our goodbyes my cousin came to the glass window and read me a scripture that God had given her to share with me. It was 2 Timothy 1:7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, of love and of a sound mind. I had no idea that day that the next 7 years of my life would be spent in prison. I've been home now for almost 14 years, this tragedy happened 23 years ago. My ex-husband has been on death row all this time, and has had numerous stays of execution. 2 years ago my case was on the front page of the newspaper. The headlines read 20 Years ago today. I couldn't believe after all this time that this would be front page news again. I wondered why, is this just a ploy of the devil to get me down, and discourage me, of course this is what he wants to do to all of us who are trying our best to serve God with all of our hearts. Not long after the article came out there was another article, this time setting another date for execution. Ever since then he has been given more stays. He has filed suit against the Governor, the state of Louisiana and God only knows who else. Each time somebody listened and all I could think about was his words to me years ago when I met him. "I can talk my way into and out of anything he said." Don't get me wrong, life and death is in God's hands and he will have the final say. Does he know the Lord? Well when I met him he was lifting his hands and praising God in front of people and beating me and my son behind closed doors. He's had 23 years to get things right with God, and truly only God knows where he stands today. From what I've heard from a couple preachers who have visited him in the last 2 years they said he was the biggest con artist they had ever seen in their lives. I've been contacted by reporters, and have done several tv and radio interviews since they have been trying to execute him these past 2 years. How do I feel about the execution is the main question? Well the bible speaks of the death penalty several times in the bible, but as for me, I forgave him years ago. I had no choice but to forgive him, I knew that I was never going to heal until I was able to forgive. If you would have asked me this question right after my sons death of would have said kill him, as quick as you can. The only thing I want now is for them to make up their minds what they are going to do. It seems that the only reason they can't set a date to execute is because of the drug they plan to use. Its what they call cruel and unusual punishment to make him suffer for a few minutes before he dies. It doesn't matter what he did, not only to me and my son but to many other women and their children. The fact is 23 years after the fact we should not still be debating on what to do about someone who has tortured women and children, his fate should have been decided and carried out a long time ago. As for me, I have relived this nightmare over and over again. I wrote a book that was released in 2011 called A Time To Heal The Struggles of A Battered Woman. It tells my story from beginning to the end and I am doing all I can to help educate women all over the world on the signs of a potential abuser, and how to tell when someone is being abused. It doesn't matter to me one way or the other what they do with him, I pray he has made peace with God, I just want them to decide one way or the other. This just tells anybody out there who is committing crimes that as long as they keep filing suit against people, they can put their punishment off for a long time. For those of you who know about abuse you understand and know what its like. I've had many people tell me, "I would have done this and I would have done that." The fact is you may think you would have reacted a certain way, but you never know what you will do in a situation until you are faced with it. Don't pass judgement on a person if you've never walked in their shoes. April 7th they were planning another hearing to talk about the drug that was going to be used to execute him. They denied the hearing. They are supposed to be setting another date for the execution, maybe sometime in May. Until then, I will wait and continue to do my best to share my story. I'm asking for anyone who has read my book to please tell someone else, if you haven't read it, please do. Abuse is something that happens every day to many women and children and its so misunderstood. You can visit my website at yvonnejonesbooks.com or contact me personally

Hello my name is Yvonne Jones, Author of a Time to Heal the Struggles of a Battered Woman. I'm writing in reference to the article printed on Sat. January 25, concerning Christopher Sepulvado's execution. It simply amazes me what our country has come to. This man has been on death row for 22 years, and still to this day wants somebody to have sympathy enough for him to keep him from having any pain a few short minutes before he dies. I know for a fact that his man was arrested for wife abuse, child abuse, and suspected of killing 2 other children before he was arrested for the murder of this child. He had also been arrested for numerous DWI's, and was at that time driving without a driver’s license. They had been suspended because of those DWI's. There was also a child in a mental institution who was unable to function because of the abuse he sustained from this one man. My question is where was the law when he committed all these crimes? Why was he considered to be just a good ole boy who can't stay out of trouble simply because as he put it "I can talk my way into and out of anything." Don't get me wrong, everybody deserves a second chance, but when you've had as many chances as he's had and still after 22 years on death row his only concern is how much pain he's going to endure for the few short moments before he dies, then it tells me the only thing that changed while he was locked up was the fact that he got older and that’s it. What about the pain and death he caused the people he abused. Louisiana is one if not the main state with the highest crime rate. Its because people like him are able to convince the law that they're pretty good guys, they just have a few problems they need to deal with. The problem is abuse like this didn't just start, its been going on for years now and until people get educated on what to look for in someone who is abusive, and women learn to look for those signs before getting involved with someone, then this cycle will never end. Children don't have a choice in the people we choose to get involved with or marry, but their opinions are usually the last to get heard, if they are heard at all. Abuse is something no one wants to talk about, but the problem is its happening everyday all around us and nobody including the law understands it. Unless you've been in an abusive relationship you won't understand how easy it is to get involved with an abuser, or how hard it is to get out the longer you stay once you are involved. I'm sorry but the reason we have such a high crime rate is people like him know that they can get away with murder, or anything else for years before anything is ever done to them. Why is this one case so important to me, because this was my son he murdered, and I too had to go to prison for 7 and 1/2 years because there was no understanding about abuse and what happens to a person mentally while they are enduring abuse. I too suffered at the hand of this man and my family as well as my son’s family is still suffering today. It’s just sad that after 22 years you can't set a date for an execution because nobody wants the poor guy to suffer a few minutes before he dies.Yvonne Joneshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03015472731874068129noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7687045556088523662.post-30621900679666296132013-11-11T04:47:00.000-08:002013-11-11T04:47:21.321-08:00HAPPY THANKSGIVING
Well good morning everyone, I pray that your month and day has started out to be a good one. Time fly,s by fast, it's already the 11th day of the month. Thanksgiving will be here before you know it. I got up with some friends on my mind this morning as well as some family members, and I just felt led to write this blog this morning. Satan is out to kill, steal, and destroy our lives and he always starts in the home. If he can get the husband and wife against each other then it cause's confusion, with each other, the children, and just life in general. God has a prescribed order for victory. What is that you say? Well its what God's word says about any situation, the way he intended it to be. He has a plan for all of our lives and he has an order for everything to take place and when things are out of order, in the home, or anywhere else then there will be confusion and it won't work. Its sad to say but in most homes today, things are way out of order. I'm sorry if I offend some of you by what I'm about to say, but its Bible so don't blame me. Ladies, whether you like it or not, God's prescribed order for victory was for God to be first in your's and your husband's life, the husband to be the head of the household, you are to be next and the children last. There are some homes where that is taking place and if you look at those homes, most of them are or lets say seem to be running smoothly, because nobody except the people living there know exactly what goes on behind closed doors. No home is going to be without problems, thats just life. I also know that many women have no choice in being the head of the household because they're husband's have left, or just to put it bluntly, are just to sorry to take care of their families. Men are not being the leaders God called them to be and that's a huge problem in the home today. You show me a home where the man is reading the word of God on a daily basis, praying with his family, and making sure all of them are in church weekly, then I'll show you a home that's staying together and running alot smoother than most. That is God's prescribed order for Victory. I'm sorry men, but if you want your wife to love and respect you the way God intended then get in the word and find out what God's will is for you as a husband. What men fail to realize is, most women or lets say most Christian women have no problem loving, honoring, or being submissive to her husband if he is looking to God to help him lead his home. When our home's get right and everything is in God's order then things begin to fall into place. When our homes are not in order, our children are not in order, school's are not in order and everything is chaotic. We as a nation have so much to be thankful for. Regardless of what's going on around us, if we have Jesus Christ living inside of us then we have all we need. He is our leader, our guide and promise's in his word that he will take care of us no matter what. One thing I shared in our church bulletin yesterday was, if you have a spouse, be thankful, and love each other because there are many people who go to bed lonely every night. If you have children, spend time with them, because they won't be children for long, one day you are going to look up and they will be graduating high school and getting married. If your parents are still living, honor them and love them because many have lost their parents. For every thing or person you have in your life, someone else doesn't. God wants us to have joy, peace, and live in harmony with each other. He has to be first in all of our lives before there can be any order at all. I pray that everyone has a blessed Thanksgiving, and no matter what kind of problems you are facing today remember God is already there and he knows your every hurt and every need. He is waiting on you to ask for his help. If your home is out of order, let go of the pride and give God and your husband their rightful place in the home and if you're a man, don't abuse that place because one thing is for certain, you will be held accountable to God on how you lead your family. HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!Yvonne Joneshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03015472731874068129noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7687045556088523662.post-62585175749479602742013-10-15T17:50:00.001-07:002013-10-15T17:50:48.178-07:00NATIONAL DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH
As most of you know its National Domestic Violence Awareness month. If you've made it to my page then you already know that this subject is close to my heart because I lost my 6 year old son to domestic violence 22 years ago. There's not a day that goes by that I don't think about my son, and I want to do everything I can to reach women and anyone else who's life is or has been touched by domestic violence. One of the most frustrating things to me is it seems so many people seem to sit in judgement of someone who stays with an abusive person, criticizes, or I've even known some who just flat out disowned their daughters because they refused to leave an abuser. I've also heard many people say, "I would have done this, or I would have done that if it had been me." The fact is no one actually knows how they will act until they have walked in that person's shoes. Everybody was created different, we all have different personalities, were raised different and handle situations differently. I said many years ago that I would never let a man beat on me and now I've written a book sharing my story of abuse. What I want people to realize is, you don't know who you're sitting or standing next too so many times and what they are going through or have been through for that matter. The legal system is the same way, they criticize and judge women who won't press charge's against an abuser, not giving any thought to the fact that the abuser has probably threatened them with death to loved ones or themselves. In my case my ex-husband had been arrested for wife abuse, child abuse and suspected of killing 2 other children other than mine. He was arrested for numerous DWI'S and was driving without a drivers license during the time I knew him because of DWI'S. They kept letting him go because he was what they called a good ole boy who just couldn't stay out of trouble. Well if the law had done their job and tried to learn about domestic violence, and take steps to help make people aware of what to look for, while at the same time taking men like my ex-husband off the streets, I would have never met him and my son would still be alive today. Its important to realize there are more kinds of abuse than just physical. There is emotional abuse, verbal abuse, sexual abuse, and mental abuse. No matter how you slice it, its all abuse and it needs to be stopped. Please help me make people aware of the importance of getting out, telling somebody, or making sure you take your time and get to really know a person before you become so emotionally attached. I am having a book-signing the 24th of this month at the Corner Coffee House in West Monroe. If you would like more information, would like a copy of my book or just need to talk, I will be there from 11:00 am till 2:00 pm. God bless.

April is National Child Abuse Awareness and prevention month. It seems like every time we turn on the television there is a story of some kind of abuse. Although abuse of any kind is bad, abuse to a child is the absolute worst.Children are helpless and innocent and have no other choice but to look at their parents for protection. This subject is near to my heart because 21 years ago, my son and I were the victims of abuse. After my first marriage ended, I met a man who from all actions and appearances was thought to be the man of my dreams. In reality, he turned out to be my worst nightmare. He wined me and dined me with candlelight dinners and roses almost every day. He was very attentive to me and my son in the beginning and made us feel loved like never before. Being convinced that this was a dream come true, I compromised my spiritual beliefs and moved away with him. Very shortly after, the abuse began, first to me, then gradually to my son. One year later, he murdered my 6 year old son. Why does any woman stay in a relationship like this? The answer is for many different reasons. If you look at the statistics, in almost every case of abuse no matter how hard the person tries to get away, the abuser always finds them. Threats of violence and death to other family members are also reasons they stay. In many women's eyes its just easier to stay and take the abuse hoping that things will change, instead of taking the chance of other family members being hurt. Shame, guilt, and fear are all a big part of why women stay.One thing is for certain, it doesn't matter how much you hope things will change, only God can change a heart and that heart has to be willing to change. Many people stand in judgement saying, "I would have done differently if it had happened to me." I said the same thing years before this happened. The fact is,none of us know how we will react in any situation until we are faced with it. Unless you have walked in someone's shoes you have no right to judge. One final thought, we live our lives by the choices we make, good or bad those choices not only affect you, the affect everyone who loves you. If you know someone who is being abused, let them know you are there to help them. it could mean the difference between life and death.Yvonne Joneshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03015472731874068129noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7687045556088523662.post-68938353992892624062013-02-04T08:58:00.001-08:002013-02-04T08:58:26.829-08:00Happy New YearWell Happy New Year. I guess its a little late in coming since its already February but better late than never they always say. It seems like its been forever since I've even been on here to post anything and for that I am ashamed. I want so much to promote my book and just do what I can to help other women who have been abused, but it just seems like there are not enough hours in the day or enough money in my bank account to spend the time doing what I love to do. Writing is the one thing I want to do the most and really feel like this is what God has called me to do, but its so hard when you don't have the money to pay bills. I'm in bad need of a new laptop as well. Mine has really had it, but no matter what is going on in my life right now, I know that God is in control and he knows whats best for me regardless of what I think or feel. I don't know who will be coming to view this page or even when but if for some reason your eyes to fall upon this page, especially before February 13, 2013 then please keep me and my family in your prayers. For those of you who know the story, you may have already heard that my ex-husband, the man who murdered my son almost 21 years ago is going to be executed on February 13, 2013. For those of you who don't know the story or who have not read the book then through my website you can learn some about what its about. In alot of ways it seems like it was just yesterday, then in many ways it seems like its been a long time. No matter how long its been, the pain will never go away. Oh God has brought me to a place where I can live with it and knowing that I will see my son again one day soon in Heaven definitely helps, but losing a child for any reason is one of the hardest things a person can ever go through. I've had many ask me how do you feel about the execution? Well I have no feelings about it one way or the other. Its not up to me to decide his fate, thats in the hands of almighty God. In the beginning I would have been ready to make him suffer no matter what the cost, but God in his infinite mercy took this person who was so broken and abused, mentally not even able to function, and unable to even realize the reality of my sons death, and showed me that the only way that I was ever going to be able to heal, was to forgive. I didn't want to forgive him of course, I didn't want to forgive myself either but forgiveness is not choice where Christ is concerned. Oh it is, but the bible says that you cannot be forgiven unless you forgive. As hard as it was for me the one thing that made the difference and helped me to make the step towards forgiveness was a message I heard by Charles Stanley. He said, when you harbor unforgiveness, hatred and bitterness in your heart towards another person you become that person's prisoner. I had been this mans prisoner long enough and I knew that I didn't want to be his prisoner anymore. Forgiveness didn't come over night, but just taking that step of Faith and being obedient to the word of God, was what gave me what I needed to forgive him and later to forgive myself. The media announcements have gone out already and they have even notified the victims to see if any of us wanted to attend the execution. Since in the eyes of the law I wasn't considered a victim, they just called me to see if I had a comment. My family has no desire to watch somebody die, especially in this way. I'm so thankful to have such a loving family, one who loves God with all their heart and lets him be the leader of their lives. Did I comment? No I have nothing to say. God is the one who allowed the sentence to be handed down and he is the one who will have the final say in what happens on February 13. I don't know who all will see this, I don't know what you're going through, or even what you've been through, but God does. 20 years ago there was not alot of education on battered women and the DA said he was using me as an example as to what happens to women who stay in abusive relationships. I did 7 years in prison because I was there at the time of my sons death, yet mentally unable to stop it. You may be going through a similar situation right now, or you may know of somebody else who is. Abuse is real and it happens everyday and it doesn't matter how strong you think you are, or what you think you would do in a situation like this, just be aware that the things in life that you are so sure you would not do or allow are usually the things that end up happening to you later. Before I was even married for the first time, I saw a movie on TV about a man beating his wife and I said, "there is no way I would let a man beat on me like that." The important thing to remember is, don't judge a person unless you've walked in their shoes, and don't ever think you're too strong to ever have a tragedy happen in your life. None of us are promised tomorrow, and only God knows what is ahead of each one of us, its up to us to stay close to him and be ready for whatever may come our way. I should have lost my mind back then, and almost did several times but God had a better plan for my life. He knew I needed to be mentally able to share my story so I could help other people. He brought me through the most horrible tragedy of my life, and he is there for you as well, no matter what you are facing today. I pray that if you're facing abuse of any kind right now, trying to get out, struggling to make a decision on whats best for you and your children, that my story will somehow help you see, you cannot change that person, only God can change a heart, and that heart has to be willing to change. Don't stay for any reason, especially if you feel your life or the lives of your children are in danger. Get out, find a friend, a shelter, a church, somebody who will help you and leave the abuser in God's hands. I'd like to introduce you to another wonderful couple in my life who I call my adopted mom and dad. Their names are Solomon and Beatrice Williams and I met them during my first few months of prison. Actually Ms. Bea worked in the kitchen and after I had been there for several days sent someone around to see if I wanted to go to work. I had no intention at that time of being there that long mind you, so I just told her I couldn't work because I was going home soon. Of course God had other plans and I ended up being there for 7 years, but there's no doubt in my mind that God put these two special people in my life for a reason. I went to work in the kitchen and it didn't take long to see that this special lady was going to be a blessing to me and definitely someone I could talk to. She assured me from the beginning that if I needed prayer or just needed to talk that she would be there for me. I took full advantage of it too. After a few weeks Ms. Bea introduced me to her husband. When I first met him he was really quiet, didn't have much to say and seemed to me like he was a little stuck up. Ms. Bea told me he was like that with people he didn't know that well, but once he got to know you he would be different. She left the prison after about 11 months to go home and take care of her own business called Unique Touch. I wondered if I would ever see her again, when one day I was out by the back gate at the kitchen dumping the trash and there she was. She came to the fence and gave me her phone number and told me to call her anytime. I guess I really shouldn't have called as much as I did, but once I got started it was just hard to stop. Mr. Williams would just accept the call at first then hand it to Ms. Bea, but after a while he started getting to know me and thats when the fun began. I would call, he would pick up and spend a few minutes telling me he didn't talk to white folks on Sunday, he wasn't home, or there was nobody there by that name. Finally he would accept the phone call and after he talked for a while he would give it to Ms. Bea. I cannot tell you the times I was feeling so down and just hearing his voice cracking those jokes on the other end put a smile on my face, then a much needed prayer from Ms. Bea and I would be ok again for a while. Prison is a lonely place, it doesn't matter if there's 5 or 50 or 200 like we had there, its still lonely. I grew to love these two wonderful people so much I decided to adopt them as my second set of parents. I even had one of the inmates at the prison make me an adoption certificate for them to sign. Of course Mr. Williams swears to this day that he signed it under duress. lol! When I was being released to come home for work release, they told me that I would probably go home and forget all about them. I told them I wouldn't and here they are. Actually, I just talked to him a little while ago and wished him a Happy Father's day too. I love them both so much and talk to them every week. Not many people are as blessed as I am to have 2 sets of parents and loads of brother's and sisters as well. The picture was taken at my wedding to my husband I have today. I love ya'll very much.Yvonne Joneshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03015472731874068129noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7687045556088523662.post-68260374065814041652012-06-17T18:51:00.001-07:002012-06-17T18:51:26.775-07:00Happy Fathers Day<br />

I want to say I love you to my daddy today. We had a great day, we went to church this morning, and I took him to Captain D's for lunch. He says, "thats a great little seafood place." lol Its been our favorite for many years now. I used to take my son there all the time when he was little. My brother Terry, his wife DeeAnn, and son Lewis met us there too so it was a very nice day. My husband chose o stay home and relax. I guess if thats what you want to do thats fine. Yesterday my brother Roy came down from St. Joe and brought his two boys to visit with daddy, my step sister Lorra came too so all in all he's had a couple nice days with his family. Despite all the wonderful moments we shared yesterday and today, all of our hearts were focused on our younger brother who's over seas right now. He's worked over seas for a long time now and didn't intend for it to happen but drifted away from the Lord. We know that God knows where he is and what he's doing but we haven't heard from him in 3 months. Its hard to see my daddy go through the pain of another child thats gone astray. He went through enough pain 20 years ago when I was going through my battle. I've never seen such strength before, his wife has medical problems and rarely gets out of bed, his youngest son hasn't called him or come to see him in 3 months and still he smiles, he prays, he brings joy to others while dealing with his own pain. Its hard for me to see him getting older every day. I have so many things I still want to do for him, and only God knows how many days or years I have left with him. In fact only God knows how many days or years any of us have left. We take so much for granted everyday, we allow the days to go by and don't even say I love you to those who are important in our lives. Our children come to us to talk or play a game, yet we're so busy doing what we think is more important that we forget they will grow up and be gone before we know it. I heard someone say Father's Day doesn't mean anything to me, no more than Mother's Day, or any other holiday means to me, its just another day. We should live each day as if it will be our last and let those who are closest to us know that they are loved and appreciated. To all of you out there who's father has gone home to be with the Lord, my prayers are with you. I know how much it hurts to lose someone you love, and no matter how many years go by there's never a day that goes by that you don't think about them. I'm so thankful that the grave is not final, and we as Christians have the joy in knowing that one day soon we'll be reuinited with our loved ones that have gone on before us. God bless every Godly father today and if you're not a Godly father and just happened to end up on my page somehow, I pray that God will reveal himself to you in a mighty way and let you know that he loves you with all his heart and he wants whats best for you and your family. To my husband, my son, all my family, my friends, my church family, and even my new acquaintances, I love you all in the Lord and if I can ever be of help or just lend an ear to a hurting heart, please let me know. God bless.Yvonne Joneshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03015472731874068129noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7687045556088523662.post-55108326730502554002012-06-06T20:14:00.000-07:002012-06-07T20:35:47.783-07:00A Tribute To My Daddy<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<b>Well its that time of year again, time to give honor to our earthly fathers that I know many of us can say we are blessed to have. I really don't have enough words to describe the love and appreciation, nor can I thank God enough for my earthly father. He has been a rock in my life ever since I was a child. I didn't always realize it back then, you know how kids are, we always think we know more than our parents, but I can't ever remember a time when he wasn't there for me. No matter what I wanted to do even though he knew it would cause me great pain, he never stopped me, he just let me know that he didn't agree with me, but he loved me and he would be there for me if I needed him. My mistakes have caused him so much pain and heartache, not to mention money, yet he just keeps right on loving me and being there for me. From the time I was a little girl I can remember him reading the bible, and praying, he's always trusted God to lead him in all his decisions. He's spent many long, hard days and nights on his knees praying for me and my 3 brothers. One of the greatest things about him is his character, I think how we handle problems, and how we live our lives in front of other people no matter what we are going through says alot about us. He spent many sleepless nights praying for his only daughter to realize the mistake she was making with a man who he said would not even be good to have a cup of coffee with. Months later to bury his 6 year old grandson because of that mistake. For the next few years he spent every dime he had trying to convince the legal system that I was not guilty of manslaughter, although the DA felt that I was morally responsible. The pain was tremendous for all of us, the cost was expensive, yet I still did 7 years in prison. No matter what the cost, he was there to visit me every 2 weeks when we had visitation. He continued to love me, to support me,and to defend me, even though I refused so many times to listen to him. He endured great heartache, yet he always had a smile on his face, he had a way of making people laugh and the strength he portrayed through it all was given by God alone. One year after I went to prison, my mother passed away, now he had lost his grandson, his daughter to prison, and now his wife. My heart ached after my mama's funeral knowing I was going to have to leave him alone. I'm so thankful we serve a God who promises to never leave us nor forsake us. He carried my daddy through so many painful times and even today I watch him as his heart aches for another child who has gone astray. On the outside he laughs and brings joy to others, but on the inside he's hurting so bad. If I could only take away his pain, If I could only give back to him a portion of what he's given me, I would be the happiest person in the world. All I can do is tell the world what a wonderful father he is and always has been. Not only that, he's a wonderful man of God, a man who puts God first in every area of his life, who loves others above himself, and strives each day to be a blessing to everyone. Outside of my heavenly father, he is the greatest man I know and I love him with all my heart. He hasn't read my book all the way through, and although he wants to know how things are going with promotions, it hurts too bad to relive this tragedy. I don't even know if he will ever see this but just in case: Daddy I love you with all my heart, I could never thank you enough for all you've done for me, for loving me, standing beside, and supporting me no matter how bad it hurt or cost you. You are the best father a girl could ever ask for and I will always do my best to be here for you no matter what. Happy Fathers Day and may God abundantly bless you not only for what you have done for me but for what you do for others. I love you very much. </b>Yvonne Joneshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03015472731874068129noreply@blogger.com0
